The Noughties #1

During the early part of the Noughties I was working with some of the biggest indie bands in the UK. It was a magical time, the independent music industry was getting crippled by downloads and Pop idol. Big studios were dying, labels stopped paying out, but the bands were still not content to record everything in their bedroom on an iPad! Musicians still wanted to live the nostalgic dream of taking time over their creation, gaining integrity and boshing loads of drugs in an expensive studio.

So in this troubled start to the decade (before the industry came to today’s relative calm) artists had to be clever, deliver the sound of a studio recording for the cost of a bag of weed. – This ingenuity lead to skint engineers and some genius output!

Here are some to remember that you may have forgotten about (some I enjoyed many a good night with)!

At The Drive In – One Armed Scissor

The Stands – Outside Your Door

The Music – Take The Long Road And Walk It

The Basement – Medicine Day

The Bandits – 2 Step Rock

Metro Riots – RIP Mother

Happy As Annie – Larrikin Love
