Heavy On The Ride – Delaying The Inevitable EP

This is the debut EP release from experimental Swansea three piece Heavy on the Ride. ‘On Course’ is a four minute long instrumental that sets you up for the remainder of the EP. Over the course of the four songs I experience an all out rock effort, ‘Red Walls’ has moody guitar riffs that tips to early Queens of the Stone Age. ‘In Our Time Of Need’ clocks in at over 9 minutes long and has a very similar sound and roughness to BRMC . It’s a risk to have a song for that length of time but the songs are all about trying new sounds and for me it works as it has an atmosphere of which you can lose yourself. The EP finishes with a great piece of alternative rock in ‘First In, Last Out’. In terms of vocals they grow stronger on each track which suits the structure of the songs perfectly. If your into alternative rock then Heavy on the Ride should be your new favourite local band.

4/5

“Delaying the Inevitable” will be released at the bands launch show at Koopas in Swansea on the 25th of May.
